Hexagonal mesh


Includes all oil refining, distillation and enrichment processes that make its various components available for further industrial operations, such as many petrochemical processes, or for their use as fuel for civil and industrial use and for energy production. Plants are normally located onshore in strategic locations and receive the liquid hydrocarbons obtained in the Oil & Gas production plants. The main process in which hexagonal mesh and anchors are used is:

Fluid catalytic cracking (FCC)

The objective of this process is to convert low value products from other processes into more valuable products.
The FCC normally receives feed from the vacuum distillation column (heavy oil fractions) and produces light ends (sold as LPG or sent to the alkylation units), naphtha and light oils (sent to the Hydrotreating unit), medium oils (sent to the Hydrocracking unit) and slurry oils that are sold as heavy fuel oils.

The catalytic cracking reaction occurs in a fluidised-bed reactor followed by a spent catalyst regenerator (which is also a fluidised-bed type).
Above the reactor and regenerator there is a series of cyclones for the separation of catalyst dust from the exiting vapour stream.
Both the reactor and the generator, as well as the cyclones of both, are lined with anti-abrasive material that is normally armoured using hexagonal mesh and anchors.
